The tragic incident occurred at the busy College Junction along the Agbor-Obi Road and extended toward the State School of Nursing area, according to eyewitness accounts.

Witnesses said the heavily loaded truck was travelling at high speed when its braking system suddenly failed, causing the driver to lose control and crash into multiple commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, and their passengers.

“It was a terrifying scene,” an eyewitness said. “The truck was coming at a very high speed. Once the brakes failed, it kept crashing into motorcycles and people along the road. There was confusion everywhere as people tried to escape.”

Residents said the impact left several victims trapped beneath the vehicle and wreckage, while others were flung onto the roadside.

Initial reports indicated that more than six persons died on the spot, while many others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities by emergency responders and concerned residents.

Some witnesses expressed fears that the death toll could rise due to the critical condition of several injured victims receiving treatment.

The bodies of those killed have reportedly been deposited in a morgue pending identification and further procedures.

Police officers attached to the Agbor Division swiftly arrested the truck driver following the accident. Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and whether negligence or mechanical failure was responsible.
