NCDC Assures Nigerians: No Ebola Case Detected Amid Regional Outbreaks
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that there is currently no recorded case of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria, while cautioning the public against the spread of false information.
In a public advisory, the agency stated that it has strengthened nationwide surveillance systems in response to recent Ebola outbreaks reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention urged Nigerians to remain calm but alert, emphasizing the importance of basic preventive measures such as regular handwashing, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of infected persons, and promptly reporting any unusual or suspected illness to the nearest health facility.
Health workers have also been directed to maintain a high level of suspicion for possible cases, ensure the use of personal protective equipment, isolate suspected patients when necessary, and report through approved official channels.
The agency further reassured the public that it is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to issue timely updates. Nigerians can also reach the NCDC through its toll-free line 6232 for inquiries or to report suspected cases.
The disease in question, Ebola Virus Disease, remains a priority for surveillance due to its history of rapid transmission and high fatality rate in outbreak settings.
