Trump Announces U.S. Mission to Guide Stranded Ships Through Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will begin an operation on Monday to “guide” stranded commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route that has been heavily disrupted amid ongoing regional tensions.
According to statements shared on his Truth Social platform and confirmed by multiple international news agencies, Trump described the initiative; reportedly named “Project Freedom” as a humanitarian effort aimed at helping vessels that have been trapped in the waterway due to insecurity and blockades.
He said the operation would assist “neutral and innocent” countries whose ships have been unable to safely navigate the strait, adding that the U.S. would help guide them out so they can resume normal trade activities.

Reports indicate that the U.S. military may be involved in supporting the mission, with guidance from U.S. Central Command, though officials have not fully detailed the operational scope. The Pentagon has so far declined to provide clarity on whether active naval escorts will be used.
The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but strategic passage, is responsible for a significant portion of global oil and gas transport. Recent instability in the region has led to dozens of disruptions and attacks on vessels, raising international concerns about energy security and maritime safety.
Trump also warned that any interference with the operation would be met with a strong response, though he emphasized the mission’s stated goal as humanitarian and protective for global trade routes.
