Trump Pressures Iran to Sign Deal as U.S. Considers Extended Blockade

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Iran to quickly agree to a deal as his administration weighs extending a naval blockade targeting Tehran’s oil exports, intensifying pressure amid stalled negotiations.

In recent remarks, Trump called on Iran to “get smart” and finalize an agreement, warning that delays would only worsen the country’s economic and strategic position.

The comments come as U.S. officials consider maintaining, or even prolonging a blockade of Iranian ports aimed at restricting oil shipments and forcing Tehran back to the negotiating table. The blockade is part of a broader strategy to compel Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route disrupted by the conflict.

Behind the scenes, Trump has held talks with major U.S. oil executives to assess how a months-long blockade could affect global energy markets and domestic fuel prices. Rising oil costs with crude prices surging sharply, have become a major concern for the administration.

Despite signaling openness to diplomacy, Trump has made it clear that the blockade will remain in place until Iran agrees to a comprehensive nuclear deal addressing U.S. demands. He has rejected proposals that would delay nuclear negotiations while easing economic pressure on Tehran.

Iran, however, has pushed back, insisting on recognition of its nuclear rights and warning of potential military retaliation if the blockade continues. The standoff has deepened instability in the region, with threats to global oil supply and rising geopolitical tensions.

The developments highlight a hardening U.S. stance as both sides remain locked in a high-stakes confrontation with no immediate breakthrough in sight.
