Day 65 of the ongoing Middle East conflict has seen a cautious diplomatic shift, as U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington is engaged in “very positive discussions” with Iran, raising fresh hopes for a possible end to the war.

The conflict, which erupted following a U.S.-Israel strike on Iran in late February, has destabilized the region, disrupted global oil supply, and heightened fears of a wider war. However, recent statements from Trump suggest that back-channel negotiations may be gaining traction.

According to the U.S. president, ongoing talks between American representatives and Iranian officials could lead to “something very positive for all,” signaling a potential breakthrough after weeks of military escalation.

Despite this optimism, the situation remains fragile. Iran has submitted a 14-point peace proposal through Pakistani mediators, demanding sanctions relief, withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region, and broader guarantees to end hostilities. However, Trump has expressed skepticism about the terms, suggesting they may not be acceptable in their current form.

Meanwhile, tensions persist on multiple fronts. The Strait of Hormuz; a critical global oil route, remains heavily disrupted, with hundreds of ships stranded due to blockades and military activity. In response, the United States has announced plans to begin guiding vessels through the waterway in what it describes as a humanitarian effort.

Conflicting rhetoric from both sides continues to underscore the uncertainty. While Washington hints at diplomatic progress, Iranian officials have issued warnings and set conditions, including deadlines for a potential agreement.

Analysts say the coming days will be crucial in determining whether negotiations can de-escalate the conflict or if the region risks sliding back into full-scale confrontation.
