APC APPROVES ALL SEVEN ASPIRANTS FOR ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY RACE

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has given the green light to all seven aspirants vying for its ticket in the upcoming Anambra State governorship primary, set to take place on April 5. The party’s screening committee, led by former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, reviewed and cleared the candidacies of Paul Chukwuma, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Chukwuma Umeoji, Valentine Ozigbo, Johnbosco Onunkwo, and Edozie Madu. According to a statement released by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the aspirants have received their Certificates of Clearance at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. Morka also revealed that Valentine Ozigbo was granted a special waiver to participate in the primary election, ensuring his eligibility to compete. In preparation for the primary, Morka urged all APC members in Anambra State, both new and existing, to complete the mandatory membership revalidation process as outlined by the party. “We are committed to a fair and transparent process that allows every member to participate fully,” he said. The APC expressed optimism about the cleared aspirants and called for unity among party members as they prepare for the governorship election. The primary is anticipated to be a highly competitive event as the party aims to field a strong candidate for the Anambra State governorship race.

OKONKWO DECLARES INTENTION TO CONTEST ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

Professor Obiora Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, has formally announced his intention to run for governor of Anambra State in the November 8 election. Okonkwo made the declaration at his country home in Ire village, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area. The business mogul, who will be contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also inaugurated his provisional campaign council ahead of the party’s primary. Okonkwo stated that his decision to run was driven by a sense of responsibility to contribute to the development of Anambra State. “Anambra is a land of limitless potential with industrious entrepreneurs and resilient people,” Okonkwo said. “However, the state has not lived up to its full promise due to poor governance. The pains and horror of insecurity have left our people living in the bondage of fear.” Okonkwo pledged to prioritize security, economic transformation, job creation, infrastructure development, education, and human capital development, among other areas. He described his entrance into the race as a movement to reclaim Anambra from stagnation and place it on the path of sustainable development. “I believe Anambra deserves the best,” Okonkwo said. “Together, we can build a state that truly works for everyone; a state where governance is about service to the people and not to self. I need your support; together, we can make Anambra a shining example of excellence and good governance.”

SOLUDO OFFERS N10M BOUNTY FOR EACH PERPETRATOR OF ANAMBRA ATTACK

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, has announced a bounty of N10 million for each of the perpetrators of the December 30, 2024, attack on security operatives and innocent civilians during a burial ceremony in Ihiala Town, in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state. Gov. Soludo, announced the N10 million bounty when he visited the wife of one of the victims, Bridget Onuchukwu, expressed his heartfelt sorrow over the loss of life following the deadly attack, which resulted in the death of nine people, including two security operatives. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims and I want to assure this community that those responsible for this violent act will be brought to justice. “We will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended. All of them will pay for it. We are on their trail as we speak. Anybody that will avail us information that will lead to their arrest will be appreciated. “Ihiala security is currently being discussed and will be unveiled soon,” he said. Addressing a town hall meeting during the visit, the governor rained curses on the gunmen who carried out the attack and killings in the council area. “I am saying on behalf of Anambra State that all the people who carried out this attack and killings, their generations will never see good things. “They, their children and all their supporters will not witness good things. Communities must fight now because the perpetrators of this evil are within the local government. All security operatives should come out of their offices and fish them out. “Whatever needs to be done would be sponsored by the government, l announce a bounty of N10 million on each of the criminal,” the governor said in Igbo Language. Meanwhile, the state police command in a statement, said the attackers began shooting sporadically when they arrived at a venue where preparations were ongoing for a burial ceremony slated for January 2, 2025.
