EDO STATE LAUNCHES INITIATIVE TO ENHANCE TEACHING STANDARDS

Edo State has taken a significant step towards improving the quality of basic education by organizing a two-day training workshop on scripted lesson plans and content development for public school subject experts. The initiative, approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo, aims to equip teachers with the necessary skills to deliver structured, engaging, and effective lessons. Held on March 27th and 28th at the SUBEB headquarters and the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) in Benin City, the training was facilitated by a team of experienced educators. Participants learned about the importance of scripted lesson plans, which ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with the Nigeria Education Research Development Council (NERDC) standards. Executive Chairman Barr. Mrs. Onomen Goodness Briggs emphasized that the foundation of a successful education system lies in the content delivered in classrooms, stating, “What we teach and how we teach it makes all the difference.” The training focused on creating engaging learning experiences that empower students, rather than just preparing teaching materials. The workshop featured practical demonstrations of the “I Do, We Do, You Do” instructional model, allowing teachers to observe and practice effective teaching techniques. Group discussions and hands-on activities reinforced the collaborative spirit of the workshop, enabling participants to share insights and best practices. With educators from primary and junior secondary schools across all 18 local government areas of Edo State in attendance, the program highlights the state’s commitment to standardized and high-quality education. This initiative reinforces Edo State’s dedication to professional development in education and marks a milestone in the state’s efforts to enhance teaching practices and improve learning outcomes for students.
