MANY KILLED IN BORNO BUS STOP BOMBING
A devastating explosion occurred at a local bus stop in Mairari village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, killing many passengers and injuring several others. The incident happened around 11am on Sunday after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the bus stop detonated. The Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, confirmed the incident, expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased. “It is unfortunate that many of my resilient constituents were killed by planted IEDs while waiting to board vehicles at a local bus stop in Mairari village,” Lawan said. He explained that the village, which was previously resettled twice with civil authority, has been deserted due to Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks. Many people who have taken refuge in nearby towns often visit Mairari to engage in farming, and the terrorists have been monitoring their movements. Lawan appealed to the military and other security agencies to restore safety in Guzamala, especially in Gudumbali, the council headquarters, Mairari village, and surrounding areas, which have been under Boko Haram control without civil authority for many years. “May Allah grant their souls Aljanatul Firdaus,” Lawan prayed, also wishing for the swift recovery of those injured in the incident. The lawmaker’s appeal highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for increased protection for civilians.
