MEDICAL TRANSPORT JET CRASHES IN PHILADELPHIA, KILLING ALL ON BOARD

A devastating plane crash occurred in Philadelphia on Friday evening, claiming the lives of all six people on board a medical transport jet. The Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, was carrying a child patient, her mother, and four crew members from Mexico when it crashed into a neighborhood near Roosevelt Mall, exploding in a fireball that engulfed several homes. “We cannot confirm any survivors,” said Jet Rescue Air Ambulance in a statement. The child patient had been treated in Philadelphia for a life-threatening condition and was being transported home to Tijuana, Mexico, with a planned stop in Missouri. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro described the incident as an “awful aviation disaster” and expected fatalities. “We know that there will be loss,” he said. The plane was registered in Mexico, and Jet Rescue is based in Mexico with operations in both Mexico and the U.S. This is the second fatal incident in 15 months for Jet Rescue, following a 2023 crash in Mexico that killed five crew members. A doorbell camera captured the moment of impact, showing the plane plunging in a streak of white and exploding as it hit the ground. “All we heard was a loud roar and didn’t know where it was coming from. We just turned around and saw the big plume,” said Jim Quinn, the owner of the doorbell camera. The crash occurred less than 3 miles from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, which primarily serves business jets and charter flights. The Learjet 55 quickly disappeared from radar after taking off from the airport at 6:06 p.m. and climbing to an altitude of 1,600 feet. President Donald Trump expressed his condolences on social media, saying, “So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia.” “More innocent souls lost,” he added. “Our people are totally engaged.” The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation into the crash. An investigator arrived on the scene, and more officials are expected to arrive on Saturday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with witnesses describing the scene as chaotic and devastating. Michael Schiavone, a nearby resident, said, “There was a large explosion, so I thought we were under attack for a second.”
