The Rotary Club of Abuja Central Business District (CBD) is set to construct two blocks of classrooms, furniture, and a Head Teacher’s office in Gidan Village, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The project, estimated to cost 25 million naira, is part of the Club’s efforts to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils in line with one of Rotary’s areas of focus on basic education and literacy.
In a statement signed by Past Assistant Governor Evelyn Onyilo, Public Image Chair of the Rotary Club of Abuja CBD, Incoming President Hajiya Lauratu Samaila Yenwan said the completion of the school project is a top priority for the Club in the new Rotary year, which begins on July 1st. Evelyn Onyilo noted that the Club has several other projects lined up, including the distribution of sanitary pads to girls, refurbishment of a borehole, tree planting campaigns, maternal and child health outreaches, and economic empowerment of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Lauratu Yenwan pointed out that about 35 million naira is needed to execute the projects proposed by the Club and appealed to kind-spirited individuals to support and partner with the Rotary Club of Abuja CBD to realize the objectives. “A Fund Raising event has been slated for Friday, the 4th of July 2025, at the Shoprite Novare Central Office Park, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja at 4pm,” she said.
The Fund Raising event will feature a keynote speaker, Mr. Paddy Ezeala, a renowned journalist and Publisher of Development Agenda Magazine, who will speak on the theme, “Uniting for Good: Building a Better World, One Community at a Time”. A member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Jeremiah Umaru, is expected to be the Chairman of the occasion.
Lauratu Yenwan, an accomplished businesswoman, takes over as the 9th President of the Rotary Club of Abuja CBD for the 2025-2026 Rotary Year. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from the Centre for Distance Learning of the University of Abuja and succeeds Rotarian Katherine Adamu, MFR.
