NIGERIA POLICE FORCE SEEKS BUDGETARY INDEPENDENCE FOR ENHANCED EFFICIENCY

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has defended the 2025 budget for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) before the Joint Committees on Police Affairs and Police Institutions at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja. In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP emphasized the need to remove the NPF from the envelope budgetary regime to allow for accurate funding projections. The Police Spokesman stated that this adjustment would enable greater flexibility and ensure the availability of funds to manage the Force more effectively. The IGP also highlighted the need for the approval and creation of a Special Operations Account dedicated solely to national security emergencies, as well as an increase in allocations for Overhead and Capital Expenditure. ACP Adejobi noted that the IGP proposed allocating funds for the construction of five new zonal headquarters, along with supporting tactical units critical to internal security. Adejobi added that the IGP called for the approval of dedicated budget lines for police training institutions to enhance capacity building. The IGP stressed that the prompt and full release of appropriated funds in 2025 would be essential for the smooth functioning of the entire Force. NIGERIA POLICE FORCE RECEIVES AWARD FOR MOST IMPROVED SERVICE DELIVERY PARASTATAL OF 2024

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been recognized as the Most Improved Service Delivery Parastatal (SERVICOM Unit) in Nigeria for the year 2024. The award was presented to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, by the National Coordinator/CEO SERVICOM Presidency, assisted by other SERVICOM staff from the presidency. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the award is a testament to the dedication and commitment of officers and men who are working tirelessly to improve service delivery of the Nigeria Police Force. Mrs. Nnena Akajemeli, in her address, noted that the strides the NPF has taken in recent times to ensure proper service delivery are remarkable, particularly in regards to the service charter and workplan on customer service in the year 2024. IGP KAYODE EGBETOKUN ORDERS IMMEDIATE TRAINING OF CID INVESTIGATORS, REORIENTATION OF POLICE PERSONNEL

He further charged them to improve on their anti-crime strategies to reduce crime drastically in the year 2025. In the statement, the IGP emphasized the importance of conducting police duties with the highest level of professionalism, stressing the critical need for enhanced specialized training for Criminal Investigation Department investigators. The IGP also directed that additional training and reorientation courses be implemented for all police personnel to project attitudinal change and ensure the consistent maintenance of professional standards in the execution of their duties. The training courses will focus on areas such as human rights, community policing, ethical conduct, and the proportional use of force, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to serving the public with integrity and respect. IGP ORDERS CLAMPDOWN ON ATTACKERS OF POLICE STATION IN BORNO

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, which resulted in the death of two police officers. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement that the IGP has ordered an immediate and thorough clampdown on the perpetrators, emphasizing that “any cop-killers will go unpunished.” Adejobi further stated that the IGP expresses deep condolences to the families of the deceased officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, affirming that their sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten. The IGP has assured that their benefits and entitlements will be immediately paid to their families. In a Press release made available to CTN, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa AdejobiI, stated that the IGP is being accompanied by several senior officers, including the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the South-East, Frank Mba mni. As part of his engagements, the IGP paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter N. Mbah, during which discussions centred on strategies to enhance the security architecture of the state. ACP Adejobi stated that the Police Chief reiterated the commitment of the Force to maintaining peace and security across the country and extensively to Enugu State. He emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in enhancing community-based security initiatives and solicit their continued support and collaboration in addressing security challenges in the state. The IGP then proceeded to the Enugu Council of Traditional Rulers, where he was warmly received by the Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Asabo, and other esteemed traditional rulers.
