FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU HOSTS SPOUSES OF AFRICAN HEADS OF STATE IN ABUJA
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has hosted spouses of African Heads of State at a cultural reception held on the sidelines of the 32nd Annual Meeting of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM) in Abuja. The event, which took place at the Nike Art Gallery, featured traditional dances, a fashion show, and an art exhibition, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Africa. In a statement, Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, said Tinubu underscored the power of arts in fostering unity and reinforcing shared identity across Africa. “Our diversity in culture, tribe, and tradition is one of our greatest strengths as a continent,” the First Lady said. Busola Kukoyi further quoted Tinubu as saying the convergence of culture and commerce at the sidelines of the AFREXIM Bank meetings is a reminder of the richness of Africa beyond the boardrooms. The event brought together visiting First Ladies and dignitaries, including the First Ladies of Malawi and Gabon, the wife of the Vice President of Tanzania, and a representative from Egypt. They were treated to a guided tour of the Nike Art Gallery and viewed exhibitions by Nigerian fashion designers and artists. Busola Kukoyi noted that the First Lady expressed her pride in showcasing Africa’s foremost art galleries, saying, “This reception may seem relaxed, but its essence is deeply aligned with the vision of African unity and progress being championed at the AFREXIM Bank gathering.” The AFREXIM Bank Annual Meeting is centered on economic development and continental cooperation, with the Spouses Programme reflecting a softer dimension of diplomacy, celebrating African creativity, identity, and soft power. The event highlighted Nigeria’s role as a host of high-level economic deliberations and a custodian of rich cultural heritage.
