PRESIDENT TINUBU DISPELS ONE-PARTY STATE RUMORS, AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has categorically stated that he has no intention of establishing a one-party state in Nigeria. Speaking during a special joint session of the National Assembly to commemorate the country’s 26th year of uninterrupted democracy, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to a multiparty system. “I will be the last person to advocate for a one-party state,” Tinubu declared. “At no point in the past, present, or future will I consider such a notion beneficial for Nigeria.” The President drew from his experience as a key opposition figure during the early 2000s when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dominated the political landscape. He recalled his resistance against the PDP’s attempt to prolong its rule for half a century, stating that a higher power prevented Nigeria from becoming a one-party state then, and it won’t happen now. Tinubu welcomed defectors from other parties, including those from Delta and Akwa Ibom States who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stressed that his party is open to all and that political parties should focus on internal reforms rather than fearing defections. The President reaffirmed the importance of competitive multiparty democracy in national development, urging lawmakers to collaborate across party lines on critical issues, particularly economic reforms. He highlighted his administration’s achievements, including economic stabilization, infrastructure development, and initiatives to empower citizens through consumer credit and digital inclusion. Tinubu paid tribute to pro-democracy advocates and acknowledged his predecessor’s role in declaring June 12 as Democracy Day. He called for continued cooperation between the executive and legislative branches to strengthen democratic governance and advance the nation’s interests.

ABUJA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE RENAMED AFTER PRESIDENT TINUBU

The Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) has been renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The renaming ceremony took place during the reopening of the renovated ICC on Tuesday in Abuja. Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, in a statement, announced that President Tinubu directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to pay for the use of the facility to ensure its upkeep and long-term sustainability. Onanuga said the President was impressed with the high-quality renovation carried out by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC. During the event, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike announced the renaming of the Centre, which opened in 1991. President Tinubu recalled his previous visit to the Centre during the 2024 ECOWAS Parliament conference, where he was shocked at its poor state. “When I attended the ECOWAS Parliament conference, the environment was dirty, disorganised, and uninhabitable. I turned to Mr. Wike and said, ‘This Conference Centre does not reflect who we are. Have we sunk this low?’” Onanuga noted that the President praised Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for delivering a high-quality renovation. Tinubu said, “The International Conference Centre is part of our country’s larger vision to become a hub for regional diplomacy, continental trade discussions, global partnerships, and other thoughtful, well-outlined goals that reflect our ‘Nigeria First’ principle.” Wike said the FCT transformed the facility within eight months after the President’s directive. “Mr. President, this transformation would not have been possible without your leadership. Many presidents have come here, but none said this was not what Nigeria needed because they lacked your courage and vision,” he said. Onanuga further quoted Wike as saying, “Whether you are a ministry or an agency, you must pay something to use this facility. That is the only way we can sustain it.” Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the FCT Administration for naming halls at the Centre after the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria. President Tinubu commended Wike for his vision and execution, saying, “Do not pay attention to the busybodies and bystanders. Whatever they say, continue your good work. You are a transformational leader with foresight, vision, and determination.”

Tinubu, in a statement, said that Justice Uwais’ illustrious career on the bench was marked by many remarkable highpoints. “He superintended the Judiciary at a challenging time in our history with tact, patience, and a sense of duty,” the President said. “This stabilising role helped usher in the current democratic dispensation, which he had the distinct honour of ushering in as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who swore in the elected president on May 29, 1999.” The President noted that Justice Uwais’ leadership and integrity were evident in his work, both in active service and retirement. “Given his pedigree and personal integrity, he was the right person for that onerous assignment,” Tinubu said, referring to Uwais’ role in heading a panel to investigate the conduct of Nigeria’s elections. Tinubu prayed that God Almighty would accept the soul of Justice Uwais and admit him to Jannatul Firdaus. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Uwais family, the government and the people of Kaduna State, as well as the members of the Nigerian Judiciary, over the death of this colossus,” the President said.

PRESIDENT TINUBU PLEDGES MORE FUNDING FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

President Bola Tinubu has assured that more funds would be committed to infrastructure development, urging governors to collaborate with the federal government to align building approvals. In a statement, President Tinubu said proper approval alignment between subnational and federal governments will facilitate the construction of major roads and bridges across the country. “I have directed the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and the Surveyor General of the federation to work more closely with the governors,” President Tinubu said while commissioning the Lekki Deep Sea Port Access Road at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Plant in Lagos. Tinubu emphasized that aligning state approvals with the Federal Government will reduce the burden of compensation and delays in actualizing people-oriented projects. The President also commended the Federal Ministry of Works, Messrs Hitech Construction Company Limited, Messrs Dangote Industries Limited, BUA, and all contractors involved in the country’s road development. “Let me assure you that with God on our side, we shall complete these projects and deploy them for the economic benefit of our nation,” Tinubu said. Tinubu dismissed critics of the government’s legacy projects, saying they are ignorant about how the government awarded the legacy roads to contractors. “It is necessary to note that the Federal Executive Council approved our Legacy Projects to be procured, awarded and constructed in sections,” he explained. The President also flagged off several projects for construction, including Section I Phase IB-120km of Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway in Sokoto State and the construction of Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway (Section II)-55km in Lagos to Ogun State Border. Tinubu made the remarks in an address read on his behalf by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, at the second edition of Police Award and Commendation ceremony held in Abuja. “We understand that modern policing demands modern tools, continuous training, intelligence-led strategies, and community partnership,” Tinubu said. “We will continue to invest in the provision of cutting-edge equipment, technological support, capacity-building programs, and welfare schemes aimed at enhancing professional efficiency and boosting morale across the rank and file.” Tinubu charged every police officer to uphold the sacred trust bestowed upon them by the Nigerian people, saying, “Be reminded that the power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection. It is not for abuse but for service to your fatherland.” Akpabio announced a personal donation of five million naira to the family of one of the awardees, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aniedi Cecilia Udoh, who died in active service in May this year. Udoh was awarded Community Policing Advocate of the Year 2024. Akpabio also recalled his passion for the Nigeria Police, saying, “I’m not tired of doing things for the Police. As Senate President, just to assure you on behalf of the National Assembly that we will stop at nothing to appropriate the requisite funds for the Police to improve not just the welfare but also the strength of its personnel in order to be able to police Nigeria.” The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the transformation of the Nigeria Police Force is not a slogan, but a daily commitment. “This occasion is not about laurels alone. It is about legacy. It reminds us that the business of policing is not transactional. It is transformational.”

While declining to disclose specific details, he stated that his recommendations to the President were offered in good faith and left to his discretion. PRESIDENT TINUBU ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER TO ENHANCE COST EFFICIENCY IN OIL AND GAS OPERATIONS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a new Executive Order designed to lower project costs, attract investment, and enhance revenues from oil and gas operations. In a statement, Senan Murray, Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, said the Upstream Petroleum Operations Cost Efficiency Incentives Order (2025) introduces performance-based tax incentives for upstream operators who deliver verifiable cost savings that meet defined industry benchmarks. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) will publish these benchmarks annually according to terrain—onshore, shallow water, and deep offshore. Senan Murray further stated that the Order returns to investors 50% of incremental government gain resulting from cost savings and caps available tax credits at 20% of a company’s annual tax liability. President Tinubu said, “Nigeria must attract investment inflows, not out of charity, but because investors are convinced of real and enduring value. This Order is a signal to the world: we are building an oil and gas sector that is efficient, competitive, and works for all Nigerians.” Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen, said, “This is not a pursuit of cost reduction for its own sake. It is a deliberate strategy to position Nigeria’s upstream sector as globally competitive and fiscally resilient.” Olu Verheijen added that the reform rewards efficiency, strengthens investor confidence, and ultimately delivers greater value to the Nigerian people. The new Order builds on the administration’s 2024 presidential reform directives, which delivered improved fiscal terms, shortened project timelines, and aligned local content policies with global best practice. Olu Verheijen’s office will work closely with relevant government institutions to ensure effective implementation of the new Order.
