The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally handed over the property and assets of Nok University, Kachia, in Kaduna state to the Federal Government. This move follows a Federal High Court order in June 2024 for the final forfeiture of the property, which was formerly owned by a private individual.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Government to take over the institution and transform it into a Federal University of Applied Sciences. This development is part of efforts to promote development in Southern Kaduna, which has suffered setbacks due to insecurity.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who witnessed the handover ceremony, stated that the event signifies the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and national development. “This is a great day for the country and for Kaduna State. The greater credit should go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for driving the process and making it the first item on the agenda of the Federal Executive Council,” he said.

Shettima also paid tribute to those instrumental in the transition process, including General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall. He assured that the university will commence operations immediately, with the President directing the Minister of Education to ensure the institution is captured in the 2025 budget.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State thanked President Tinubu for realizing the dream of establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Southern Kaduna. He described the signing ceremony and handover of property as a great day for the people of the state and Nigerians at large.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, praised the establishment of the university as a demonstration of President Tinubu’s dedication to expanding the nation’s human capital and capacity development. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, also expressed gratitude to the President, stating that the university will enhance the capacity of all Nigerians and bring peace to the region.
