GOVERNOR ALIA REVEALS SHOCKING DETAILS OF BENUE ATTACKS

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has disclosed that the recent deadly attacks in Benue communities were carried out by heavily armed gunmen who first clashed with military and police personnel before targeting civilians. In an interview with Arise News, Governor Alia revealed that the attackers infiltrated the community via a nearby river, initiating a fierce confrontation with security forces stationed in the area. “It lasted for two hours. There is a military checkpoint and there are police as well. Here is how it happens. The river is not too far from this axis. So we understand that they came by route of the river,” Governor Alia explained. The attackers, described as large in number, moved tactically through the riverine area bordering Nasarawa State. According to Governor Alia, they were initially pushed back by security forces but managed to execute their attack due to their sheer numbers. “When they got to this town, the first effort they did was to go attack the military and the police who usually manned the road around there. But they had a big push back and ran back. But they came in numbers, they usually came in huge numbers,” he added. The attacks have resulted in significant loss of life, with over 200 people reportedly killed in the Yelewata area of Benue State. Governor Alia’s account suggests that the attackers exploited the river’s proximity to avoid early detection and execute their deadly assault with precision. The recent surge in violent incidents across Benue communities has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the security presence in the region. Governor Alia has expressed frustration over the violence, describing it as terrorism and accusing some serving politicians in the National Assembly of sponsoring the attacks.
