President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a well-trained, tech-driven, and modern security agency. This commitment was emphasized during the maiden edition of the National Police Day celebrations held at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, declared April 7 as the annual National Police Day to honor fallen heroes and acknowledge the bravery of police personnel. “As President, I reaffirm this administration’s steadfast dedication to the welfare and empowerment of the Nigeria Police Force,” he stated.

The President outlined key measures to improve police welfare and effectiveness, including:

– Modern Tools and Technology: Providing modern equipment to enhance police operations and combat crime effectively.

– Adequate Accommodations: Ensuring police officers have decent housing facilities.

– Accessible Healthcare: Providing quality medical care for police personnel and their families.

– Quality Education: Offering excellent educational opportunities for the children of police officers.

“We are taking decisive steps to improve the conditions under which our police officers serve. Adequate housing, accessible healthcare, and quality education for your children are priorities we are committed to fulfilling,” Tinubu stated.

The President assured Nigerians that his government will prioritize effective policing, safety of lives and property, and addressing internal security challenges such as banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the establishment of National Police Day, highlighting its significance in promoting excellence, professionalism, and respect for human rights within the force. The event featured a guard inspection by the Vice President, a procession by tactical units, and a silent drill display by police officers.
