AMMC AND NUJ FCT JOIN HANDS FOR INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN ABUJA

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has expressed commitment to partner with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council on infrastructural development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This was disclosed when the NUJ FCT Chairperson, Ms. Grace Ike, led her executive team on a courtesy visit to the AMMC Coordinator, Chief Felix Amechi Obuah, on Tuesday. Chief Obuah welcomed the NUJ FCT team and expressed his readiness to collaborate with the council, recognizing the vital role the media plays in informing the public on AMMC’s activities. “I welcome you and your team to our corporate office today. I have listened to you and I just have to say that, I am indeed very happy to partner with the NUJ FCT,” he said. The AMMC Coordinator noted that while current financial constraints make it difficult to make any immediate commitment, he hopes to accommodate the union’s needs in the next budget. “Even though I am a bit handicapped to make any promises because of budgetary constraints, but in the subsequent budget, I assure you that whatever we can do to help your dream come true for NUJ and your members, the agency will do everything humanly possible to contribute their quota to the growth of the union,” he added. NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, commended Chief Obuah for his effective management and coordination of municipal services and infrastructural development in the FCT. She highlighted major infrastructural challenges facing the NUJ FCT Council and requested support to improve their facilities, including the completion of the Pentagon building and a hall that can accommodate over 2,000 journalists. She also made a strong case for the NUJ FCT “Journalists’ Village”, which would offer journalists affordable housing and a suitable environment to carry out their work. “Today, we come with a sincere appeal for your support towards the establishment of a Journalists’ Village here in the FCT. This initiative is vital for providing affordable housing, professional facilities, and a conducive environment that will enhance the welfare and productivity of journalists,” she said. Chief Obuah congratulated Ms. Ike on becoming the first female chairperson of the union after 41 years of its existence and prayed for a successful tenure. The AMMC Coordinator emphasized the importance of media partnership in promoting the agency’s activities and achieving its mandate.

NBTI AND WIPO FORGE PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST NIGERIA’S INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM

The National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) has partnered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to strengthen Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem. This strategic move aims to protect intellectual property, enhance innovation, and empower entrepreneurship nationwide. NBTI’s Director General, Dr. Kazeem Kolawole Raji, met with WIPO’s Country Director, Dr. Tobi Moody, at the United Nations Office in Abuja to chart a collaborative path. Dr. Raji emphasized NBTI’s pivotal role as Nigeria’s technology warehouse, championing technology incubation as a key engine for industrialization, job creation, and youth empowerment. Dr. Raji outlined NBTI’s ambitious agenda, which includes establishing Technology Innovation Support Centres across all NBTI offices, rolling out Renewed Hope Technology Hubs in each geopolitical zone, and launching Technology Incubation Centres in all 774 local government areas. These initiatives align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusive and innovation-driven growth. The partnership aims to commercialize over 5,000 patents and incubate more than 500,000 startups by 2030. Key areas of collaboration include providing innovators with access to high-quality IP services, assisting incubatees in obtaining patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and supporting research and development commercialization. Dr. Moody commended NBTI’s clear vision and ongoing impact on Nigeria’s innovation space. “We need to enhance IP literacy among NBTI staff and improve branding and standardization of Nigerian products to increase global appeal,” he stated. WIPO expressed strong support for the partnership, reaffirming its readiness to assist in implementing IP policies and advancing Nigeria’s journey toward an innovation-led economy. This landmark collaboration is set to unlock Nigeria’s vast innovation potential, protecting intellectual property, fostering entrepreneurship, and catalyzing sustainable economic growth. Dr. Raji reaffirmed NBTI’s commitment to transforming the country’s abundant natural resources into globally competitive, exportable products, leveraging the ingenuity and resilience of Nigerians. Dr. Raji’s vision for Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem is clear: to make it a hub for entrepreneurship and economic growth. NIGERIAN AIR FORCE PARTNERS WITH BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY TO PROMOTE GENDER INCLUSIVITY

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken a significant step towards advancing gender inclusivity and enhancing capacity building by partnering with Benue State University. The partnership, which was formalized through a courtesy visit to the university’s campus, aims to promote gender mainstreaming and specialized training programs. Air Commodore E.P. Bindul, leading the NAF delegation, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the military and academic institutions. “We are committed to strengthening our internal structures by mainstreaming gender in our operations, and we believe this partnership will support that goal,” he stated. The proposed partnership with the university’s Centre for Gender Studies will help align the NAF’s internal policies with national and global gender standards. This collaboration not only focuses on training but also symbolizes the NAF’s dedication to national unity and strengthening civil-military relations. Air Commodore Bindul reiterated the NAF’s constitutional mandate to protect citizens, highlighting the need for mutual trust between the military and civilians to tackle the nation’s security challenges. The university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Mike Odugbo Odey, welcomed the initiative and assured the NAF of the institution’s readiness to collaborate. “The university has a long-standing relationship with the Tactical Air Command in Makurdi,” Professor Odey stated. “We are proud to expand this collaboration to new frontiers, particularly in the area of gender development.” Professor Member George-Genyi, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, expressed her appreciation for the recognition and trust shown by the NAF. She assured the visiting delegation that the Centre would work diligently to actualize the shared goals. This partnership marks a significant step towards institutionalizing gender-sensitive policies within the armed forces and fostering knowledge exchange between military and academic institutions.

JUDICIAL COLLEGE OF ENGLAND AND WALES PARTNERS WITH NIGERIAN JUDICIARY

The National Judicial Institute has collaborated with the Judicial College of England and Wales to host a Training-of-Trainers Programme, aimed at enhancing the capacity of Nigerian judicial officers. In his opening remarks, Hon. Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi, Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, welcomed delegates from the Judicial College of England and Wales, African House London, and participants from various jurisdictions. The Head of Information, Kolade Umoru, in a statement, quoted Hon. Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi as expressing gratitude to the team from Judicial College of England and Wales, led by Deputy Senior District Judge, His Honour, Judge Tan Ikram, CBE, DL, for their support and contributions to the programme’s success. Umoru also stated that Judge Tan Ikram thanked the Institute’s Administrator and his Management team for inviting them to the programme. Kolade Umoru further noted that one of the programme’s objectives is to enable trainers to design, deliver, and develop effective judicial learning programmes. During the two-day training session, the Administrator led a delegation from the Judicial College on a courtesy call to the Honourable, The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat M. O Kekere-Ekun GCON, FNJI. Judge Ikran Tan, CBE, Director of the Judicial College of England and Wales, expressed appreciation for the partnership between the Judicial College and the Nigerian Judiciary, particularly in capacity-building and training of magistrates. The Chief Justice of Nigeria welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for the existing relationship between the two institutions. He noted that the teachings and judicial ethics from the college have positively impacted the Nigerian Judiciary, and he solicited more collaboration in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Judicial Peer-Review Learning, and exchange programmes. Kolade Umoru stated that the Institute Secretary, Olumo Abdulazeez Esq, thanked the Chief Justice of Nigeria for his support to the National Judicial Institute’s programmes.
