TRUMP SLAMS 50% TARIFF ON BRAZIL WITH EFFECT FROM AUGUST 1

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose a 50% tax on goods made in Brazil, escalating a fight with the South American country. Trump accused Brazil of “attacks” on US tech companies and conducting a “witch hunt” against former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro.

“No one is above the law,” Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva responded, warning against interference in the nation’s judicial system. Lula vowed to reciprocate if tariffs are increased, saying, “He needs to know that the world has changed. We don’t want an emperor.”

The move is part of Trump’s broader tariff plan, which includes a 50% tariff on copper imports due to take effect on August 1, citing national security concerns. Trump has posted 22 letters to countries around the world outlining new tariffs, reviving plans put forward in April.
