FCT MINISTER WIKE ORDERS UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA TO SURRENDER 7,000 HECTARES OF LAND

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the University of Abuja to surrender 7,000 hectares of land, reducing the institution’s landholding from 11,000 to 4,000 hectares. Wike made this declaration during the commissioning of a newly constructed access road in the Giri District of Abuja. According to Wike, the university had encroached on land without proper documentation or approval. “They just fenced off the land without any authority,” he said. The minister has directed the FCT Director of Lands to ensure that only 4,000 hectares are allocated to the university, while the remaining land will be reclaimed for development purposes. The reclaimed land will be used for planned development projects in the area. Wike emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in the region, announcing plans to construct internal roads and provide basic amenities such as water and electricity. The minister also revealed plans to partner with the National Assembly to establish educational and institutional projects in the district, with the FCTA providing land to facilitate these developments. The completion of the access road is expected to boost development in the area, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy, which is located in Giri. Wike assured residents that the administration is committed to improving living conditions and attracting investment to the area. “We will do everything possible to provide basic infrastructure and amenities to support development,” he said. The newly commissioned road project is part of the FCTA’s efforts to enhance connectivity and promote development across satellite towns in the capital territory.
