APC WINS IN BADARU’S POLLING UNIT, DEFENCE MINISTER’S OFFICE CLARIFIES RESULTS

The Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has clarified and corrected recent online reports that falsely claimed the Minister lost his polling unit during the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election. Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mati Ali PA, in a statement, said the Minister’s polling unit is Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School — Polling Unit 002 (PU 002). Mati Ali PA said the Minister personally cast his vote at PU 002 and the official result, as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and announced by the Returning Officer, confirms a clear victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 188 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 164 votes. “These authentic results confirm a clear victory for APC at Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002,” Mati Ali PA said. The office categorically rejected the inaccurate reports circulating online that misidentified the polling unit as PU 001 and wrongly asserted the Minister lost his polling unit. Mati Ali PA urged the public, party members, and the media to rely only on INEC’s official declarations and to disregard the spurious claims. “We urge the public, party members, and the media to rely only on INEC’s official declarations and to disregard the spurious claims,” Mati Ali PA emphasized.

SDP CANDIDATES TO CONTEST BYE-ELECTIONS AS COURT RULES IN FAVOUR OF PARTY

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has secured a court order mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the names of its candidates for the bye-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025. The bye-elections will hold in various constituencies in 12 states across Nigeria. In a statement, National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, said the court ruled in favour of the party in a suit it filed against INEC for not listing its candidates in the initial publication. Aiyenigba said the court ordered INEC to accept the party’s candidates, publish their names, and ensure they appear on the election materials. The SDP National Publicity Secretary expressed confidence in the party’s candidates, saying they are set for victory at the polls on Saturday, considering their popularity and massive campaigns. “Notwithstanding the temporary setback occasioned by the wrongful action of INEC against the Party in not listing our candidates, campaigns of the SDP candidates have been in top gear since their emergence in the party primaries, and they are set for victory at the polls on Saturday, considering their popularity and massive campaigns,” Aiyenigba said. Aiyenigba’s statement highlighted the party’s determination to contest the bye-elections and its confidence in emerging victorious. With the court’s ruling in their favour, SDP candidates will now be on the ballot papers, and voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for them.
