A video surfaced online showing a man claiming to be the younger brother of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, being held hostage by heavily armed masked men. In the video, the man is seen sitting on the floor with another victim, responding to questions from his captors. When asked about his relationship with Governor Lawal, the man replied, “I am Dauda’s younger brother. We are biological brothers — the same father and mother.” The kidnappers then demanded that the governor provide a ransom, threatening to kill the victim if their demands are not met. However, Governor Lawal has denied having any familial relationship with the victim. According to his spokesperson, Suleiman Idris, the governor has only one sibling, a woman. Idris described the incident as a “new ploy by bandits to gain attention and bolster sagging morale of their members.” The governor’s office has assured that efforts are underway to rescue the victims and reunite them with their families. “The government is currently taking steps to ensure the victims’ safe rescue and to reunite them with their families,” the statement read. The kidnapping is believed to be a desperate attempt by the bandits to gain leverage and ransom, following significant losses in recent security operations. The Zamfara State government has reiterated its commitment to combating banditry and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
