LABOUR PARTY’S PETER OBI TOSSES HAT INTO THE RING FOR 2027 PRESIDENCY
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2027 presidential election. During a live session on X Spaces, Obi declared his intention to run for president again, promising to serve only one four-year term if elected. Obi dismissed speculation about a possible joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that he has not engaged in any discussions about a joint bid. However, he expressed willingness to consider coalition arrangements that prioritize addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues. “We need to focus on stopping the killings, reviving the economy, and putting food on the tables of Nigerians,” Obi said. “If a coalition isn’t about these critical issues, I’m not interested.” The former Anambra governor pledged to stabilize the country within his first two years in office and called on citizens to rally behind the goal of national transformation. He also emphasized the importance of responsible leadership, accountability, and integrity in governance. Obi outlined his top priorities for the first 100 days in office, which include security, education, and poverty alleviation. He promised to enforce political discipline and prevent party-switching by elected officials. “We will do things differently in 2027,” Obi assured supporters. “Our votes will count, and we will ensure they count.” The Labour Party leader’s declaration sets the stage for a potentially intense political battle in 2027, with Obi positioning himself as a champion of change and good governance.
