CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS BACK MAJOR GENERAL ADAMU LAKA’S CALL FOR DIALOGUE ON TERRORISM

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice has endorsed Major General Adamu Laka’s call for dialogue and community engagement in combating terrorism in Nigeria. National Coordinator Comrade James Okoronkwo, in a statement, expressed the coalition’s wholehearted support for Laka’s approach.

Okoronkwo highlighted notable achievements under Laka’s leadership of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, including over 775 terrorism-related convictions secured through eight phases of trials. More than 730 individuals have been convicted for terrorism-related offenses, with significant support from the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit.

James Okoronkwo commended Laka’s proactive approach and commitment to sustainable solutions, urging stakeholders to support inclusive dialogue and socio-economic development to address terrorism’s root causes. The coalition praised efforts in disrupting terrorism financing and international cooperation, like Nigeria’s invitation to join the Financial Action Task Force as a guest member.

James Okoronkwo emphasized community engagement, reconciliation, empowerment and resilience are key to addressing terrorism, backing Laka’s strategy for a holistic approach to peace and security in Nigeria.
