President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to shun divisive rhetoric and instead embrace respect and tolerance. The president made the appeal at the State House in Abuja during the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund.

He stated that national unity remains essential as the country confronts multiple security challenges. “National unity remains essential as the country faces multiple security challenges,” President Tinubu said.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the president pledged continued support for troop welfare and honour for officers who died in service. He also announced a new Defence Ministry programme designed to deploy the expertise of retired military personnel to reclaim ungoverned spaces.

“This initiative will strengthen security, restore government presence, and open up affected areas for economic activity,” President Tinubu said of the new programme.

Paying tribute to the armed forces, the president described this year’s remembrance efforts as “a new chapter” in recognising their sacrifice.

A total of ₦320 million was raised at the launch event. It was attended by National Assembly leaders, service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and senior government officials.
