ADC AT RISK OF INTERNAL CRISIS, DELE MOMODU WARNS, URGES CAUTION TO AVOID ANOTHER WIKE SCENARIO
Veteran journalist and publisher Chief Dele Momodu has issued a stern warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), advising the party to avoid actions that could trigger internal discord and a failure of its coalition. He stressed that indiscipline could plunge the party into turbulence similar to the experience of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a piece titled “My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Another Wike Scenario,” Momodu reflected on the ADC’s formation as a coalition platform designed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He recalled attending a pivotal meeting of opposition leaders that adopted the ADC as an inclusive vehicle for that purpose. Momodu expressed initial optimism about the party’s direction, particularly following the appointment of former Senate President David Mark as chairman. “I was particularly happy about the choice of Senator David Mark as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, believing that his military background would instill strong leadership and maintain discipline and order within the party,” Momodu stated. However, he revealed growing concern over recent developments suggesting a drift from the ADC’s founding principles. He observed rising aggression and intolerance among party factions, warning that this could derail the coalition. He specifically questioned attempts to control the party’s presidential nomination process. “I cannot understand why any group within the ADC would think it can sit in a corner and choose a Presidential Candidate for the party without a transparent, democratic process,” Momodu wrote. Drawing direct parallels with the PDP’s history, Momodu cautioned the ADC against repeating past mistakes by allowing indiscipline to fester. He pointed to the influential role played by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike within the PDP as a scenario to avoid. “ADC must not allow a repeat of the kind of scenario that former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, held over the PDP,” he cautioned, noting such unchecked behavior threatens unity and effectiveness. To prevent a similar outcome, he urged the ADC leadership to act decisively. Momodu called on the party to foster an environment of “love, cooperation, and mutual respect” instead of succumbing to internal conflicts. He concluded that the ADC must embody solidarity, not chaos, highlighting the increasing public interest in the party as a potential rallying point for opposition forces ahead of future elections.
