President Bola Tinubu is set to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for five mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, on January 30, 2025. The ceremony, themed “From Gas to Prosperity: Catalysing Nigeria’s Economic Growth,” will mark the beginning of a new era in Nigeria’s gas development. According to the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Olufemi Soneye, in an interview with the media, the mini-LNG projects are part of the company’s efforts to deepen domestic gas utilization and provide access to clean energy. “The mini-LNG projects are aimed at delivering turnkey gas solutions, equipment, and infrastructure to the industrial, commercial, power generation, and automobile sectors,” Soneye said. The five mini-LNG plants, namely NNPC Prime LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete, are expected to provide gas to power plants, industries, and automobiles, thereby generating wealth and improving the wellbeing of Nigerians. Soneye noted that the NNPCL is committed to leveraging Nigeria’s gas assets to generate value and opportunities for all Nigerians. “We will not relent in our renewed focus to take in-country gas utilization to unprecedented levels,” he said. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be a significant milestone in Nigeria’s gas development, and President Tinubu’s presence is seen as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the sector.
