HULK HOGAN, WRESTLING ICON, DEAD AT 71 FOLLOWING CARDIAC ARREST

Wrestling legend Terry Gene Bollea, universally known as Hulk Hogan, has died at the age of 71. Emergency medical personnel responded to Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida, early Thursday morning following a cardiac arrest. This news follows recent health concerns for the retired superstar. Earlier this year, in May, Hogan underwent what a spokesperson described to TMZ as “a little fusion procedure” on his neck. At that time, a representative assured The Independent and fans that the neck surgery had “indeed been successful,” stating “He just needs from time to time a medical check up,” and emphasizing “there are no reasons to panic.” Hogan’s wife, Sky, had also actively denied rumors circulating after those surgeries that he was in a coma, insisting that his heart was “strong.” Hogan’s health struggles were extensive in recent years. He revealed on the IMPAULSIVE podcast with Jake Paul in September 2024, “I’ve had like 25 surgeries in the last ten years. 10 of them were back surgeries. I’ve had 10 back surgeries, both knees and both hips replaced, shoulders — everything.” This included a string of back surgeries and hip and shoulder replacements over the preceding decade. Hogan was a transformative figure in professional wrestling, elevating the sport to mainstream popularity. Debuting in 1977, he achieved superstardom in the 1980s with the WWF (now WWE), becoming a six-time WWF Champion. His career featured a defining moment in 1996 with a dramatic heel turn, becoming “Hollywood Hogan” as a founding member of the New World Order (nWo) faction. His impact was recognized with two inductions into the WWE Hall of Fame. Beyond the wrestling ring, Hogan appeared in films like “Rocky III” and “No Holds Barred,” cementing his status as a cultural icon. Famed wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer paid tribute, remembering Hogan as “probably the most famous pro wrestler who ever lived.” Meltzer added, “And more people paid to see him perform over the course of his career than any other person. Thanks for the memories.” Donald Trump Jr. also shared a tribute, writing “R.I.P to a legend. HULK HOGAN,” alongside a selfie of the two at a rally.
