The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a train derailment involving its Kaduna-bound AKTS train service. The incident occurred at about 11:09 a.m. at KM 49 between Kubwa station and Asham station.

Managing Director Kayode Opeifa, in a statement, assured the public that emergency rescue, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals have already been mobilized. “Emergency rescue, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals have already been mobilized,” Opeifa said. “Full compliment of security already on ground as effort is ongoing to move all passengers on train back to Abuja safely.”

Opeifa further assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of all passengers to Abuja. “Kindly bear with us at this moment,” he added. The NRC is working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, with Opeifa reiterating the corporation’s commitment to the safety of its passengers.

The unfortunate incident left many passengers stranded while some passengers reported that they had to walk with their belongings to the nearest village before boarding a vehicle to continue their journey to Kaduna.
