PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS NEW FCC CHAIRMAN, NAMES NEW COMMISSIONERS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, a former House of Representatives member, as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission. She succeeds Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, whose tenure was dogged by controversy. The President also appointed Mohammed Musa as the Commission’s secretary and retained Kayode Oladele from Ogun as commissioner. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), announced the appointments in a statement on August 11, 2025. Onanuga said the President renewed the appointments of Lawal Ya’u Roni, Abubakar Atiku Bunu, and Eludayo Eluyemi, who represent Jigawa, Kebbi, and Osun States, for a second term. “The President also reappointed Abdulwasiu Kayode Bawalla, the commissioner from Lagos State,” Onanuga added. The President also appointed 31 new commissioners to the Federal Character Commission, representing various states across the country. The new commissioners include Hon. Obina Oriaku from Abia, Mrs. Bema Olvadi Madayi from Adamawa, and Obongawan Dora Ebong from Akwa Ibom, among others. Onanuga did not provide further details on the criteria used for the appointments. The appointments are expected to take immediate effect, with the new commissioners and chairman tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of the Federal Character principle in Nigeria.

The President also appointed Mohammed Musa as the Commission’s secretary and retained Kayode Oladele from Ogun as commissioner.
