NIGERIA NEED HER FOREST TO BE PRESERVED

Forests are solutions to climate change crisis, economic development, entrepreneurship and job creation including environmental restoration. Forest produce almost 50% of the oxygen supply to humans while absorbing substantial amounts of carbon dioxide gases from the atmosphere. It greatly supports and sustain the ecosystems and biodiversity conservation.In Nigeria, 400 hectares of forests are being wiped out annually. As a country in dire need of foreign exchange there is need to unlock the potential of $2 billion annually from the forest. While we attack our forests, ironically the same forests is responsible for $15 billion earnings for Vietnam and contribute 15% to the GDP of Brazil while Ethiopia has created 350,000 jobs from forest restoration. China and India exports plants and herbal medicines to the world. To encourage forest restoration ,the EU is set reviewing trade with countries that wantonly destroy forests resources. Adequate management of Nigeria forests resources will tremendously enhance the development of herbal medicine which will increase our foreign reserves. Additionally, the forests can become a source of job creation for the burgeoning population.
