NAF ALPHA JET PILOTS DEMONSTRATE EXCEPTIONAL VALOR IN SAFE EJECTION AFTER IN-FLIGHT EMERGENCY
The Nigerian Air Force has lauded the extraordinary courage and professionalism of two Alpha Jet pilots who safely ejected from their aircraft following a serious in-flight emergency. The incident occurred on December 6, 2025, during a post-inspection functional check flight from Nigerian Air Force Base Kainji. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft developed an emergency, compelling the crew to take immediate action. Displaying remarkable composure and sound judgement, the pilots expertly manoeuvred the malfunctioning jet away from populated areas to mitigate risk to civilians on the ground before executing a successful ejection sequence. Both crew members landed safely and are currently undergoing routine medical evaluation. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the airmen for their decisive actions. “The courage, discipline and sound judgement of the pilots prevented loss of life,” Air Marshal Aneke stated. He has directed the immediate constitution of a Board of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The NAF also acknowledged the swift and coordinated response of its ground personnel. Search and Rescue teams, Fire and Crash Response units, and medical practitioners swiftly secured the incident area and attended to the aircrew, demonstrating a high level of preparedness and professionalism. This event underscores the inherent risks in military aviation operations, where airpower projection demands increased flying activities and complex missions. It highlights the daily courage and devotion to duty exhibited by NAF personnel who operate in high-risk conditions to secure the nation. The Nigerian Air Force, in its statement, reassured the public of its steadfast adherence to stringent safety standards and operational excellence. The service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in line with its constitutional mandate.
