FCT EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTRE LAUDED FOR 30 YEARS OF SUSTAINING ANNUAL BOOKFAIR
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector have commended the Federal Capital Territory Education Resource Centre (FCT ERC) for its unwavering commitment to maintaining education standards and consistently organizing the FCT Annual Bookfair for 30 years. The commendation was made during the opening ceremony of the 30th FCT Annual Bookfair held at the Education Resource Centre in Abuja. The stakeholders, including representatives from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), publishers, and the Nigerian Librarians Association (NLA), praised the Centre for being a true hub of knowledge. They noted that the ERC has provided a unique platform for nurturing and sustaining the culture of reading, teaching, and learning. “The Centre has continued to provide a unique platform where the culture of reading, teaching, and learning is nurtured and sustained,” the stakeholders said. They acknowledged the ERC’s key roles in admissions, research promotion, library services, teacher development, examinations, certification, and curriculum implementation. Speaking at the event, Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, represented by Director of Quality Assurance, Hajia Titillayo Alayande, said the bookfair has made quality educational materials accessible and affordable. “The bookfair has provided a reliable hub that eases back-to-school preparation by making quality materials accessible, affordable, and engaging,” he said. Dr. Hayyo emphasized the need to combat book piracy and circulation of substandard learning resources, calling on stakeholders to renew their commitment to quality education in the FCT. ERC Director, Dr. Neemat Abdulrahim, described the bookfair as a strong tradition started in 1996, grown into a platform for accessing quality educational resources. “The bookfair objectives include providing access to curriculum-based textbooks, showcasing ERC publications, and promoting a sustainable culture of reading,” Dr. Abdulrahim said. She thanked FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Education Secretariat management for their support. Stakeholders also condemned the circulation of pirated books, assuring the ERC of their support in fighting piracy in the FCT education sector. The event featured an inspection of book stands by dignitaries, with participants urged to acquire recommended books for the new school year.
