SARAKI FACES COURT OVER DEFAMATION CASE AND OFFA ROBBERY INCIDENT

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki appears in court today, Monday, February 10, 2025, to testify in a defamation case he filed against Mr. Fafoluyi Solace, a senior special assistant to the Kwara State Governor on New Media. The case, with suit number 9/4483/24, is being heard at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja. Saraki accused Solace of defaming him with a social media post regarding the arrest of a known PDP thug, Ojulari, who was caught with a gun at a rally of an APC House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 general election. Saraki claims that Solace’s portrayal of the gunman as his agent is malicious and defamatory, and is seeking N10 billion in damages, among other reliefs. Solace has pleaded not guilty, arguing that Ojulari is a known thug of the Kwara PDP, whose leader Saraki is. The law requires Saraki to personally testify before the court about how the post damaged his reputation. Offa Robbery Suspects In a related development, a court mention will be made today in the case filed by families of the victims of the Offa robbery incident, which occurred in 2018. The defendants in the case include the Kwara State Government, Saraki, and former Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed. The victims’ families claim that the armed robbers involved in the incident were Saraki’s henchmen, a claim that Saraki has not publicly addressed. It is worth noting that some political thugs who claimed affiliation to Senator Saraki were recently sentenced to death for their involvement in the Offa robbery case, which resulted in the deaths of over 30 people, including policemen.
